Connected Vehicles (CV) Pilot
IronStride is currently supporting the City of Greeley with a SMART Grant project to pilot connected vehicle (CV) equipment that will form the backbone of a future City-wide CV ecosystem. The project includes the installation and evaluation of roadside units (RSUs) at intersections and on-board units (OBUs) in fire trucks, ambulances, snowplows, and transit vehicles. AI-informed video detection systems are also being implemented at 3 intersections to detect vulnerable road users (VRUs) and notify drivers of potential conflicts.
Our work included supporting the City in identifying device and system requirements, ensuring compatibility with the existing advanced traffic management and fleet management systems, assessing communication network capacity, developing the Request for Proposal (RFP) for CV equipment procurement, and evaluating vendor proposals. Our team continues to support throughout the lifespan of the pilot, from initial integration and device configuration, to operational testing, long-term maintenance planning, and performance measure evaluation.
The goal of the pilot is to improve response times for emergency vehicles, reduce route delays for nonemergent vehicles, mitigate secondary accidents for passenger vehicles, enhance safety for VRUs, and provide lessons learned for future CV deployments.
