I-70 Floyd Hill

The IronStride team is currently serving as the ITS design and systems engineering analysis (SEA) lead for the Floyd Hill project. This project will bring improvements to this section of I-70 that serves as a gateway for critical commercial and recreational traffic from the Denver Metro area into the adjacent mountain corridor. This project includes the addition of a third westbound lane to alleviate bottlenecking, rebuilding below-standard bridges, implementing a host of safety improvements, and improving wildlife connectivity and environmental mitigation measures. The IronStride team is responsible for the full spectrum of technology involved in this project, including variable speed limits, truck warning systems, camera and vehicle detection coverage, and a complex transition from a full-time express lane to a peak period shoulder lane.

During the construction phase we have also been responsible for developing the concepts for smart work zones and the traffic operations, electronic signing, and tolling elements for the temporary entrance to the peak period shoulder lane. In addition, our team is providing construction management and inspection for the relocation of the existing Mountain Express Lanes (MEXL) devices within the project area and for the installation and integration of all new ITS devices, including fiber, tolling systems, variable message signs, closed-circuit television cameras, microwave vehicle radar detection, and a variable speed limit system.
